another nice addition to my squadron(Posted on January 12, 2017)
Goes together like the other VH $25 epp planes...superb value. some cuts a little off or sloppy but juat use extra care during assembly and always dry fit and check things before gluing. VH planes tend to fly well in stock form, when configured as recommended by VH...plenty of power, no weight balance issues, etc.
One downside, if there is one, is this Edge version does not have the rudder and elevator authority of the giles 202 or sabre and therefore requires a bit more effort to 3D with my admittedly novice flying skills.
Id recommend the 3s power setup because you can still fly 2s batteries for longer more relaxed flight times, and pop in a 3s battery to go crazy. With the higher kv of a 2s motor, on the other hand, youre stuck with 2s batteries unless you change to smaller props. Also, with 3s motor and battery, the current draw is less than a 2s setup at same power output (power = volts x amps), so you can more safely get away with a slightly lighter and cheaper 10amp esc than 12 or 18amp.
hope that helps.

Best Indoor 3D PLane(Posted on November 22, 2016)
This is a super quick, responsive 3D indoor plane on 3S. With its full flying elevator, I was able to do five continuous loops at the Spartadome. Will try for six next week. The best 3D indoor plane I own.

Like plane it flys well.(Posted on April 22, 2016)
I have owned many 3d planes. At the shipped price this is my go to trainer for 3d practice. I have hammered these planes and some foam tac or welders glue I'm back flying, Repairs are fast.
I like the 2206-1500 on a 2s 500 with a 9.47 prop no landing gear.

Great for the money(Posted on September 6, 2015)
Ok, before everyone asks "Is it as good as a "crack"... Its better, why? Because I can get 3 or more of these for the price of one overpriced "name brand" foamy. After all, that's what foamies are all about, cheap bashing, taking risks that you wouldn't do with your thousand dollar birds.

This plane has great flight characteristics; fast roll rate, little coupling, and excellent pitch control with the flying elevator. Builds a little on the heavy side for the wingspan, go lightly on the glue ( foam tack is excellent!) Throw out the "Chinglish" build manual, and follow the thread on RCG.

My Setup:
Custom CDR Coolwind
GForce 3s 500-800Mah
Thunderbird 12A Esc
Futaba s3117 servos ( I had some laying around, but any inexpensive 9gr will work)
Gemfan 8x4

Great Value and Performance(Posted on February 2, 2015)
Set up 3 cell 500mah and 9g servos. Running a 8x6 prop and it moves out nice but also holds while hovering. Definitely view the builds from others as the instructions are not the best. This is a great bring to work and fly during lunch plane. I ended up mounting battery on side to get balanced as I do with other brands. This thing is half the cost of others and is just as good, if not better. In addition, Value Hobby is fast and accurate on all items shipped.

great plane(Posted on January 5, 2015)
used mostly tak glue. finished out at 6oz without battery
with a turnagy 3020 1800kv motor paired with a 8-4.3 prop and 3- 9g servos,
i would have used the 5g ones i ordered with the plane but they gittered bad.
it balanced out between the aileron and elevator servo with plenty of room for adjustment.
the wind beats it around a bit but i just use a 800mah when windy.
flies like a baloon on 500 2 or 3s. worth every penny.

Great value and flies well(Posted on November 29, 2014)
Got this 32" plane after trying th bigger 39".
This one flies much more docile and stable.
Will try the SBach next when it's in stock.
The only negative is the aileron born is hard to screw on servo.

Fun & cheap!(Posted on October 17, 2014)
This is a fun plane and a great value...but being new to foamies (but not new to RC) I followed the instructions and recommendations during this build and learned a few things along the way that I would do differently next time. Thought I might pass on those ideas in case it helps someone else:

1. The aileron control horn is shown backwards in the instruction manual...it should be 'swept' towards the nose/front of the plane...not the tail/back (as shown).

2. Don't bother with the recommended 5g servos on the rudder and elevator. Just get 9g servos all the way around (3 total). They won't add significant weight and will last longer...and they also fit the precut servo slots better.

3. Install control horns to servos before gluing them into the fuselage. The instructions show the servos installed in the fuselage first (with no horns attached) but there's really no reason to do this and it just makes it more difficult to get the horns installed later.

4. Depending on your motor/battery choice you may have cut a new slot for the battery to get this plane to balance at the recommended CG (8.6" back from the nose...which is about 2" behind the spar). I used a Blue Wonder 1500 Kv motor I had lying around from another project and a 3S-450mAh Glacier battery and had to cut the battery slot back between the aileron and elevator servo to get the CG correct.

5. Plan on getting different landing gear (or just don't install the gear and hand launch) for outdoor flying. The included gear is probably fine for indoor flying (not sure as I don't fly indoors).

Hope that helps someone...enjoy!

This is an awesome plane to build and fly(Posted on March 9, 2014)
This plane was an easy build. I used E6000 glue (welders will work) I set this plane up with a CF2822 motor. There was no landing gear so I added some. It balanced a bit nose heavy but used the battery to balance it (8.6 inches from leading edge). My first flight at Akron University indoors, I was nothing but impressed. It hovered almost hands free at half throttle then climbed without effort. The Red Bull theme was a great hit with other pilots. Great job Value Hobby! Bill

You just cannot have more fun for $25(Posted on December 29, 2013)
I purchased the Sbach plane (Edge 540 was out of stock) after seeing very favorable comments on RCGroups. When I saw that the Edge 540 was in stock I snapped one up quick...wish I had ordered a second one to have sitting back as a spare. This plane and the other three 8mm EPP sister planes come nicely painted and include all the items needed to complete a plane minus the electronics. The tab construction make for an easy and quick assembly of the fuselage and all of the hinges already completed.

This plane and the sister Sbach and Lazer planes have become my favorite go to planes when I just want to work on 3D flying. The EPP foam is very durable and when repairs are needed a little Welders and I am back flying in minutes. When repairs are needed I have found I can fly another plane for a battery or two and then return back to the now repaired plane for more thrashing. The biggest negative for me is that I find them often out of stock and disappear pretty quickly when in stock. As for the plane I have found the motor mount to be the weakest link. I use an old gift card that I epoxy to the weak wood mount and am good to go.

I have not found more fun for $25 than this group of 8mm EPP planes.
