Good board for the price(Posted on July 18, 2015) This is a Fliip32+ (Naze32 clone) board. It has barometer and magnetometer, which would seem like nice features. I say seem like nice features because they don't work that well. I've owned two of these boards on two quads and have tried to use both features. They just aren't that accurate. The barometer, if completely isolated from any kind of prop wash, will usually hold within five feet of where it should be. That's okay, but not the best. The magnetometer can be used for headless mode or head-lock mode, but they can easily go crazy. The magnetometer can easily be interfered with by power lines, transformers and even the beeper on the quad. I actually lost a quad this way. Headless mode was activated and just went haywire and I could no longer accurately control the quad. Yes this was my fault for letting it get too far away, but this is why I just don't trust the magnetometer. One last drawback is that the Flip boards are getting a reputation for easily broken USB ports. I had one break too. I was lucky enough that I could solder it back on and immediately following I added a Bluetooth module so I could adjust settings without use of USB. Now don't get me wrong. This is a good board. It performs well and is a good value. I just wouldn't waste money on this version that includes the barometer and magnetometer. I never use them anymore and the 6DOF version is cheaper without them. |

Great flight controller for mini quads, loaded with features(Posted on January 5, 2015) I bought this board for my qav250 mini quad. There is lots of documentation online and in the forums but it would have been helpful to offer an electronic manual for download. The Naze32 board is popular but there are many variations and the pin outs vary between boards. At first I was unable to connect but then learned I needed to download the usb driver. After connecting to the Baseflight app for google chrome I was able to connect only after updating the firmware. A little documentation would have saved me lots of time but I have a friend who walked me through it. Once connected I was able to figure out the pinouts and the board orientation. I ts not easy to find a Naze32 board with magnetometer and barometer for the price. I tested both of these features and they seem to work well. This board is also capable of handling a sonar module but you will need "clean flight" to activate it. |
